The brief video below on resilience and gratitude covers what’s likely to happen when we intentionally practice gratitude:
– We’ll notice and appreciate the good things in life: we train the mind to look for and therefore to see them. Positive emotions towards the past and future are therefore engendered
– Hope and optimism follow in the slipstream
– There is less room for us to experience negative emotions
– We’ll negotiate adversity and negative life events more easily: because of our grateful attitude/disposition, and tendency towards hope and optimism, we’ll be more resilient when we have disappointments or setbacks
– With these positive emotions, we’ll have a sense of agency and influence over what happens in our lives, towards the good and the bad, which in turn is liable to be good for our self-worth and self-esteem
This isn’t a ‘slam-dunk’ situation, where these positive elements will spring up instantly, but habit-forming can come from practice and consistency and repetition.
