Stress Awareness for Managers: Supporting staff to prevent and manage stress

Beautiful sunrise in the mountain

Course overview

The focus of the session is to provide managers and by extension the organisation with an understanding and grounding in stress and its outcomes, so that they can better support staff – and themselves – to personally prevent and manage stress. It covers what we can do as individuals not only to deal effectively with potentially adverse situations – e.g. pressure, change, uncertainty – but also to perform and develop, and make the most of ourselves professionally and personally

What you’ll learn

By the end of the session, you’ll be able to describe

  • What we mean by stress: the four main stress response areas – physical, mental, emotional and behavioural – and typical responses we can experience in each of these
  • Why we get stressed/where these responses originate
  • How to manage the connection between emotions and feelings
  • The main factors influencing and impacting on how we develop and grow, including emotionally
  • Thinking errors and thinking skills/helpful thinking
  • Practical stress management techniques to prevent and manage stress

Why you should sign up

This session is aimed at those involved in staff management, wellbeing, development and performance – HR; Wellbeing; OD; Managers – who wish to gain a better understanding of what we mean by stress, how it can affect us and what we can do, as individuals and from an individual perspective, to prevent and manage it. We’re reminding ourselves here how resourceful we are and can be, how stress is not an inevitable consequence of difficult and demanding circumstances and in addition, how we can go about preventing and mitigating the negative feelings we may experience. This is an empowering message for staff and for the organisation. (Please note that to maximise the scope for participation and interaction, delegate numbers are limited to 16).
