What You Can Do At Your Desk

Take breaks

Leaving your desk for a few minutes can help to clear your head, allowing time to refocus on your work.

Sit comfortably

Set your desk up so you are not sitting at an angle and make sure that the screen is at eye level. Sit upright, don't slouch.

Breathe properly

Take some deep breaths. The oxygen helps you to concentrate better and helps to ease muscle tension.

Keep hydrated

No need to drink gallons of water, but keep thirst at bay. Dehydration makes concentration difficult. It can also make you feel hungry, encouraging you to eat more than you need to.

Don't put off the jobs you don't like

It will have to be done eventually and the more you put it off, the more stressed you are likely to become. Get it done and then you can concentrate on the work you prefer to do.

Take a lunch break

Try not to eat lunch at your desk. Take a short walk outside to get some fresh air.

Control your workload

Don't take on more than you can handle. If you try to do too much, the work you produce may not be of a good standard. Accept help if it is offered and ask for help if you feel overwhelmed. This is not a sign of failure – it is good teamwork.

Organise your workspace

Try to keep your desk tidy.

Smile

One of the best ways to reduce stress. When you say 'good morning' to your colleagues, add a nice smile. You may not always feel like doing it, but smiling can really make a difference. It can make you feel better, and make others feel better too!
