Our Resilience Coaching Service supports and encourages staff/individuals to develop and maintain a confident, optimistic and resilient outlook. This can be particularly helpful during times of excess pressure, change, uncertainty and adversity, when we want to ‘keep on an even keel’ as far as we can, and maintain a ‘can-do’ attitude.
The service consists of one-to-one sessions - lasting up to 55 minutes - at your workplace, with an experienced and qualified coach. The coach assigned to your company makes regular visits, with sessions allocated on an appointment basis.
Background
A couple of definitions of ‘resilience’:
'the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness'
'the physical property of a material that can return to its original shape or position after deformation that does not exceed its elastic limit'
Resilience is a skill that’s going to be helpful for us any time:
at the best of times, to enable us to make the most of ourselves and the opportunities presented to us and to deal well with, learn from and overcome any potential difficulties we’re faced with
at the worst of times, when things are difficult at work or at home, so when the going gets tough we CAN stand it and work our way through it.
Resilience coaching focuses on the thoughts and behaviours that encourage and maintain your resilience:
- whatever ‘level’ you think your resilience is at or has been in the past
- whatever your work/life circumstances
As with all coaching, resilience coaching is based on the principle that our well-being is down to ourselves, and we are responsible for it. This is a positive concept in that it means that we have the means, the power and the influence to change our situations if we can work out how to do so. And because resilience is a skill, this is something we can learn, and get better at, with practice.
We’ve all heard of the concept of our ‘comfort zone’: areas we’re comfortable operating in, and those situations we’re not okay with. Resilience coaching can help to extend our comfort zone, as widely as you feel necessary, so that you can make the most of yourself, and deal with adversity as well as you possibly can. Typically, it involves a combination of questioning, listening, feedback and goal-setting.
